Have You Had Enough — of What?

So, have you really had enough? I know I sure have. Enough of what? My feeling that my ideas, my values, my way of being is better than yours. “Yours,” is that specific group of people that voted different than me — that I’ve conveniently put in the category of racist, misogynist, and even intolerable. I apologize for that. Truth be told, my willingness to do this is somewhat weak. I like my cynicism. It makes people laugh. And, then I look at what I do, where my passion is — to bring people together. Um.

So, whether we want a more tolerant and generous community, or a more cohesive, trusting team, we must begin to see ourselves in others, no matter how obvious the differences are. This simple activity — FINDING THE CONNECTION will begin to build the let’s-look-for-the-connection muscle. It’s fun. And from all my years’ experience — play crosses all boundaries and brings people together in a profound way. Sure, I could facilitate a deep discussion on how we need to understand and accept our differences — that conversation is important too. And I’ve seen what happens when individuals come together in play. Laughter is universal. The feeling of connection is immediate. It lingers, and when we see that person again, we have a choice. Either we’re reminded of the bonding that was quick and joyful, leading to more conversation or, we keep our cynical armor up, sword in hand, ready to slash away. Please pick connection.
